Who says the entire region of Switzerland covered with snow? In the southern Ticino province known as the Swiss Mediterranean. Uniquely, the majority of people in this tropical region speak Italian.
Ticino is the only province in the Italian-speaking Swiss. Located in the southern Alps, Ticino offers a different atmosphere to the tourists: a tropical feel in the middle of Europe. No wonder this province is touted as the Swiss Mediterranean.
"The climate is typically Mediterranean, about 20 degrees Celsius. Among the snow mountain, tourists can find a palm tree, traditions and culture, as well as modernity. Everything blends in Ticino," said Simon Bosshart, Director Asia Pacific at Switzerland Tourism Switzerland Travel Experience event at the JW Marriott, Jakarta.
Bosshart true, Ticino region is full of contrasts stuff. Travelers can see icebergs, glaciers, lakes, valleys, as well as modern cities tropical. There is a town Ascona, Bellinzona, Chiasso, Locarno, Mendrisio, Tenero, and Lugano have some beautiful lakes and hills.
Still remember the James Bond film Golden Eye (2005), starring Pierce Brosnan? One of the shooting is in Verzasca Water Dam, third highest dam in the world. If you dare, you can try bungee jumping from a dam 220 meters altitude and freefall for 7.5 seconds!
Want to see famous buildings in Switzerland, just come to Swissminiatur Melide. Since 1959, this place has more than 120 1:25 scale miniatures of famous buildings in the country. There are churches, cathedrals, as well as the railway line along the 3.5 Km. Complete with trains, cable cars, and ships are driven using electric power.
Right in the heart of Ticino, Bellinzona is the city that must be visited by tourists. In this city there are 3 castles are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visiting castles, tourists will be 'thrown' into a few centuries ago.
Most importantly, you can enjoy the tropical climate of Switzerland in her warm nan. But before visiting Ticino, do not forget to bring Italian dictionary.
