Imagine the risks when pilots fall asleep in the middle of the flight. This recently happened to a New Zealand airline pilot that Air New Zealand. Fortunately, no incidents whatsoever during the pilot fell asleep.
The pilot was flying the Boeing 777-300ER from London to Los Angeles in November 2011. That presented the report of the investigation conducted local authorities for the incident.
In the document the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revealed local, the pilot in question has been handed 'report fatigue' to local authorities. In the report it was found that the pilots fell asleep more than once while flying the plane.
The unnamed pilot who claimed to lack of rest time in London, exactly one night before flying to Los Angeles. The pilot mentioned in detail, the air conditioning in his hotel room problematic rooms so had to move 3 times. This, according to the pilot, exhausted and did not get the maximum rest.
"I suddenly fast asleep in the cockpit. Same thing happened twice," said the pilot in that report.
But the Air New Zealand confirmed, safety is a top priority for them. Therefore, they asked the pilots and staff to submit a report fatigue as part of a special program in addressing this issue. The airline also explained that there were three pilots on duty while the incident.
"When the incident happened, one of the two pilots who had served nodding twice for several minutes before finally awakened spontaneously. A pilot in the cockpit more aware of this, and safety is not at all threatened," they added.
