In northern Ethiopia, Africa was a small town called Lalibela. Nothing strange glimpse of the city. But wait until you see a church basement is reported to be building a replica of the church in heaven.
Back in the 12th century, was born a prince in northern Ethiopia named Gebre Mesqel Lalibela or Prince Lalibela. While still a baby, he attacked a flock of bees. People thought he was going to die, but it turned out he was still alive. Since then, the Ethiopians have thought that the prince would later become their leader.
However, the popularity of Lalibela make her sister jealous. He tried to poison his brother with herbal ingredients, but Lalibela always survived. Infuriated, the elder brother sedated with poison. Lalibela's when told to go to heaven and see the church complex there. Then the angel told him to build the same church on earth.
Long Short Story, he had become king Lalibela. Because leadership among the people, the city is named after town of Lalibela. When served, the king hastily summoned the workers to build 11 churches in 3 parcels of land, each of which has an area of 1 square km near the city. Interestingly, the church is not in the ground, but it is underground.
To date, 11 churches are still standing strong and is still used for worship by the 90 million people of Ethiopia, especially the followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Even the church is also known as one of the oldest in the world.
Each church has an area of about half a tennis court. The roof is level with the soil surface. Each church is also associated with a substantial stone tunnel. King Lalibela deliberately ask the expert stone carvers to create tunnels, sculptures, and various other ornaments.
Ultimately the outcome is fabulous. With the technology that is still very low at the time, but King Lalibela was able to create a very beautiful church building.
Every day, there are some priests who sat on the floor reading the Bible in the church. There are also stand welcomed pilgrims, holding the wand form the letter 'T'.
Almost every corner of the church filled with religious trappings. There are paintings and some other ornaments of gold plated, brass, and wood. There was still no Bible-based goatskin, with handwritten text monks.
There was room enough mystical, dark, and dusty. In it there are a lot of bones. Bone is known to the rest of the bodies of the monks. These bones are considered as sacred objects.
Churches is quite deserted. Usually there are only a few priests and monks. They live in caves in the dekay church, pilgrims rely on donations to survive. On most days, they spend time in prayer and reading the Bible.
Although it has a very interesting story and history in it, this church was not able to attract many tourists. Unlike the religious destinations elsewhere, relatively deserted church in Lalibela. Moreover, only a few airlines that can reach the city of Lalibela.
